We are passionate about developing unique visual solutions for our clients. To achieve this we combine the architectural skills of our team with artistic flair to create stunning visual imagery of future built environments for architects, urban master planners, interior designers and developers.

Our work on the Euston Station and Oxford Circus regeneration schemes, and both the London 2012 Olympic Games and Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, played a key role in their success.

'The combination of a piece that is both as visually attractive and technically accurate as the innovative Oxford Circus improvements scheme was essential to fulfilling the client's needs and Designhive worked very hard to ensure we could all be proud of the end product'

Designhive were commissioned by Atkins to create a powerful and technically accurate public consultation video that would bring to life the proposed regeneration scheme of Oxford Circus.

Real simulated data was used to visualise the impact on future pedestrian and traffic movement, to make it a believable vision of a future reality.

The animation showcased the current Oxford Circus situation and then the improvements removal of street clutter would give.  This was replaced by the proposed street scheme using comparative before and after footage.

'Designhive devised a method of reflecting Atkins two dimensional  traffic and pedestrian models in a 3D Studio Max model of the proposals.  Combining the models in the simulation in this way makes the finished product particularly compelling and is among the first time this technique has been used.

A particle-based system was used to model the pedestrians, running seven different layered simulations controlling 5000 virtual people to match up the data produced by Atkins Intelligent Space.  When the final simulation was rendered, the 'particles' were replaced with animated people, programmed to walk while the points were moving and idle when the points stopped for traffic lights.

The end result is a simulation that is difficult to distinguish from a real piece of video footage, and that has the added benefit of being based on the technical models developed to test the proposals prior to their implementation.

Public consultation is all about the communication of ideas and proposals to a lay audience in way that is accessible, engaging and believable.  In  this respect the work commissioned for Oxford Circus makes a major contribution to the placemaking process.'   Paul Fraser, Atkins Public Realm Ltd for  Technology Space & Place Nov 2008

London 2012 Olympic Games

Designhive created 33 atmospheric, exciting CG and photomontage images for the Bid Book and media publicity surrounding the launch bid.  Imagery focused on the London 2012 brand plus nationality-neutral crowds and technically correct sporting action.  Dynamic photomontages were crafted to breathe life into well known, previously passive landmarks.

We were then re-approached to create a series of stills and animated stills showing the stadium during the Games and in Legacy Mode in an effort to communicate one of the bid's prominent differentiators for the press launch prior to the final decision made in Singapore.

We are very proud that these stunning images of the sporting venues captured the imagination of the media and consolidated London's position as a forerunner in the bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games.

Imagery wasfor the sporting events around the country, not the Olympic park, but with so much work and due to their limited budget, Designhive invested £45k worth of chargeable time and became an official Olympic Bid Supporter. Due to this official status, we were thrilled to be invited to attend the official party for the non Singapore Olympics Bid team, and as part of that team, celebrated the win.

Our relationship continued when we were asked to assist with the Singapore presentation, to show various views  of the Olympics Stadium.  Our imagery was included in the winning presentation in Singapore.
